Abstract Art Paintings
Abstract artist Martin Banks
After studying
at the Glasgow School of Art I exhibited widely in my native Scotland, my
early work focusing on figurative, landscape and still life. This period
allowed for the development of the painterly skills and eye for detail. In
1997 a realisation that the main interest in my painting was the potential
of the working of paint to create a feeling in the viewer led me to more
abstract work. This was at the same time as I became interested in the
subject matter of cells and viruses and began using these as subject matter
for abstract work. In 2000 I left Scotland for the city of Kassel in Germany
where I continue to experiment with the possibilities of paint. I mainly
work in abstract but my love of landscape ensures that I still produce
landscapes which in time will no doubt become more abstract themselves.
